Dreaming of a Mediterranean garden in South Alicante? My father did just that. My father Bertil Olsson planted the garden. He enjoyed gardening but as he got older he had a local man to take care of the Villa Balea garden. I know employ a professional firm. The garden has changed over the years as some trees had to be removed among others my mother´s Ficus tree. It just got to big and the roots seek water and it was to close to the house and the water
Some of the palms have found its own way to the garden and now there is mix of planted trees and those that came with the wind.
Citrus fruits
In the garden I have several citrus fruits tree, Lemond, orange and clementine trees. It is such as joy to make fresh orange juice in the morning.
Other fruits and herbs
At the back of the garden I have a fig tree. It grows every year and we cut it down to get maximum number of fruits. We also have a small almond tree. We also have several herbs such as thyme.
The palms and other plants
There are several different kind of palm trees, flowers and other mediterranean species. There is an irrigation system in place. One day I would like to make the garden more like a forest edible garden Mediterranean style but then I would probably have to spend more time in the house. In addition I would need to learn much more about gardening trends. Every year winter time the gardener prunes the trees.
Agriculture region
Villa Balea is a villa in the urbanisation Ciudad Quesada. Vega Baja, the name of the region, is agriculture land.
