Book your tennis holiday in Ciudad Quesada! The urge to find adventure and enjoy time with friends never really fades, regardless of age, gender, or background. A recent group of guests in Villa Balea, Ciudad Quesada, proved exactly that.
Six Swedish gentlemen, two Peters, Ingvar, Kjell, Martti, and Janos, arrived with varied backgrounds but a shared appreciation for tennis, good company, cooking together, and, for some, a bit of golf. This was not just a holiday, but a week built around movement, friendship, and good living. All active seniors, and all very clear about the kind of active holiday in Spain they enjoy when traveling together.
Daily Tennis in the Heart of Ciudad Quesada
At the centre of their daily routine was tennis. Ciudad Quesada offers three well-maintained municipal courts, conveniently located and easy to book. With some initial help from me (Eva Oscarsson), who coordinated bookings through the Rojales municipality, the group secured courts each day. You can book either the same day or the day before. Just go t.o the local town hall centre or call them.
The schedule was simple: two hours of tennis every morning.
The courts are within walking distance from Villa Balea (approx. 700 meters), so it’s safe to assume there was a fair amount of walking involved, at least on the way there. The return journey, perhaps slightly less enthusiastic as it is uphill.
For anyone looking for a tennis holiday in Ciudad Quesada, it doesn’t get much easier than this.

Cooking, Sharing, and Slowing Down
Back at Villa Balea in the afternoons, it seems at least some of them dared a dip in the pool, no small achievement, as April brings plenty of sunshine but not always enough heat to properly warm the water.
Before arrival, Janos had asked about a large casserole, my mother’s old one, traditionally used for Hungarian chicken soup. That request alone suggested serious cooking intentions. It is therefore highly likely that at least one generous batch of Hungarian goulash was produced during the week.
When you travel in a group meals naturally became social events, with everyone contributing in their own way. As the group arrived late on the first evening, I had asked my son Rasmus, who happened to be in Ciudad Quesada at the time, to prepare some essentials: cold cuts for dinner and breakfast supplies for the next morning. A simple arrangement, but one that tends to be very appreciated after a long day of travel.
There’s something timeless about gathering around a table, both at the start of an adventure and after a day of sport. A perfect example of a relaxed villa holiday on the Costa Blanca.

Golf for Those Who Wanted More
For some in the group, activity did not stop at tennis. Ciudad Quesada is surrounded by several excellent golf courses, and according to reports from Janos, a few took the opportunity to play at La Marquesa Golf.
Whether it was tennis, golf, a walk in the area, or simply relaxing by the pool at Villa Balea, everyone seemed to find their own preferred pace. And if I understood things correctly, the recommended 10,000 steps per day were reached, quite comfortably.
For those searching for a golf and tennis holiday in Costa Blanca, this combination works remarkably well.

More Than a Holiday
What makes a stay like this special is not just the setting, it is the mindset. The only fixed points in the schedule were the tennis bookings. Otherwise, no pressure. Just a shared intention to stay active, enjoy each other’s company, and make the most of each day.
Villa Balea proved to be a very suitable base: comfortable, relaxed, and close to everything needed for a holiday rental in Ciudad Quesada.
Find Your Own Active Holiday
This week is a good reminder that Ciudad Quesada and Villa Balea are well suited for an active holiday, perhaps especially for a more mature audience. Ciudad Quesada was originally developed for Europeans looking for a holiday home in Spain, and eventually a place to enjoy retirement in the sun.
Everything is close: a wide variety of sports facilities, restaurants, and grocery shops.
Whether it’s tennis in the morning on the Ciudad Quesada courts (or perhaps in a neighboring municipality for a change of scenery), golf in the afternoon, boule in Rojales, cooking in the evening, or even a bicycle ride along the Segura River, there are plenty of ways to shape your own version of a fulfilling getaway.
